I wish I could tell you how many times I’ve heard the phrase “I would LOVE a V.A./social media manager/video editor but I just can’t afford one right now.”
To tell you the truth, about 100 of those times would have been myself because I spent a good two years in my business trying to do everything myself. From website creation, to updates, to setting up groups, to scheduling out social media posts… you name it, it was my job.
For so many running their own business, they find themselves in the same situation. It’s almost like a “rite of passage” for us into learning just what it takes to run a business. BUT, here’s the thing… it’s never supposed to stay that way. To get to the next level in your business, putting together the right systems and learning to outsource is KEY.
“I get it but I just can’t spend that kind of money right now.”
Oh… but you can! Let me show you!
Below is exactly how everything changed for me so that I was able to step into the freedom-filled life and business I had dreamed of and let go of the entrepreneur overwhelm in the process. All through outsourcing.
5 STEPS TO FIND THE MONEY TO OUTSOURCE IN YOUR BUSINESS:
1. GRAB THE HIGHLIGHTERS
To reach the level of income and freedom you truly desire, we have to first dig into where you are currently. Print out your bank statements and/or credit card from the last two months and grab a few different colored highlighters or pencils. Go through your lists and highlight the following:
- Eating out/snacks or coffee on the go
- Random store trips (clothes, home decorating, hair and beauty, etc.)
- Monthly club memberships (gym, mail orders, ect.)
- Home expenses (mortgage/rent, gas, water, electric)
- Business expenses (training, business fees, marketing, ect)
- Vehicle expenses (car insurance, gas, car payments, ect.)
2. WHERE IS MY MONEY?
Take a look at what you’ve just highlighted and be honest with yourself… where are you spending money on that you know is not serving you or your business? Those quick little buys at the counter, the random grocery runs when you have plenty of food at home. Dinners out over and over again. The new dress when there is a closet full of clothes. Make a check mark on each of those items. HINT: You will most likely find the most check marks in categories B-D.
3. ADD IT UP
Add up the cost of everything you just checked. This is what’s called the “FAT” in your budget.
Write down that total at the very top of your sheet. Make the biggest circle you can around it. This is the money that is being spent on the things that are NOT serving you long term and taking away from the things that WILL. Think about it for a minute… are the dinners out worth more right now than time freedom? Are the drinks with friends worth more than taking your business to the next level?
It’s not to say you can’t ever have or do these things again but for right now, it’s time to show yourself you can do without it in the short term in order to skyrocket your business and personal freedom in the long term.
4. WELCOME TO THE FREEDOM FUND
That number is officially your new “freedom fund”. I call it the freedom fund because the minute you take your business to the level with outsourcing… you give yourself the best gift of all. Freedom. Time freedom as you are able to work less, personal freedom as you are able to really focus on the tasks in your business that excite you and financial freedom because you will be able to hire qualified people to fill the gaps in your business – that will help it to grow FASTER.
NOTE: If you currently are working on paying off debt, I suggest using 50% of the freedom fund on your debt and the other 50% on your business through outsourcing.
5. GO GET YOUR FREEDOM DREAM TEAM
You now know the budget you have to outsource… now what? Write a list of the types of work you need in your business, in order of priority. IF you don’t have a V.A., I would suggest that first!
From there, write out exactly the tasks you would like that person to do for you and either post an ad on a site like elance.com (my personal favorite!) or go into appropriate Facebook groups to find others who offer those services or can refer you to someone who does. They don’t have to be local… that’s the beauty of an online business. As your income grows, you can keep going back to your list and start to hire more people for your business that will bring your perfect dream team all together!
Are you up for applying this into your business and really bringing it to that next level of freedom, through outsourcing?
